AAN DE ANDERE KANT
A series of graphic + poetic interventions for empty commercial and retail spaces in Rotterdam, 2009
Artful combinations of design + text intend to counteract the negative effects of vacant storefronts and commercial spaces, to transform the spaces into compelling sites that lift the spirits and to facilitate dialogue and exchange between the city and its residents, merchants, workers and visitors.

TIME-HONORED TAPESTRIES
Design in Public Space, Afrikaanderwijk/Rotterdam 2008
Afrikaanderwijk is a problem generating criminal area. Since years the authorities are busy with rehabilitating its inhabitants. In our research we discovered that the core of the problem is not the criminal inhabitants themselves, but the absence of history in this district. This results in a lack of social coherence based on a common past and related to a common future perspective.
With our proposal we recreate the history and predict the future of Afrikaanderwijk, giving this place a reason for its existence: An installation of 30 billboards.

Newspaper, Afrikaanderwijk/Rotterdam 2008
Research project on the portrayal of violence in the media about Afrikaanderwijk in Rotterdam. The final product is a newspaper that communicates to and with voice of the related target groups like critics, youngsters, yellow press and statistics. With our proposal we want to show of how many different ways violence is represented in the media.
